NeeDoh was created when the Schylling toy company launched their super-soft, sensory squishy stress balls in 2018.
Although NeeDoh have been around for 8 years, they have recently become a worldwide trend and extremely popular. Their newfound popularity is thanks to TikTok, where they have gone so viral it’s nearly impossible to find them.
NeeDohs come in many different shapes, sizes, colors, designs, and textures. Although Walmart, Target, and numerous other online and physical shops carry these squishies, they are so popular that often all you can find are empty NeeDoh boxes, which is just flat-out sad. Not to mention the prices for NeeDohs are getting out of hand. For example, at a brick-and-mortar Walmart a NeeDoh is about $5 depending on the type, but the same toy at Walmart.com is around $50, which is insane. Note to self: If you really want a NeeDoh, or any type of squishy, don’t buy online. A place that usually keeps some NeeDohs in stock is Lovechild, the toy shop in downtown Lewisburg.
Junior Ruby DeHaven said her favorite NeeDoh and only NeeDoh is the Cube, which has a very firm squish until it warms up. Her dream NeeDoh is “the pink Jellyfish one or the Popsicle one!” These are rare toys that have a very unique, soft squish to them.
Sophomore Emily Hudson’s favorite NeeDohs are the Fuzzball and the Egg. The Fuzzball has a very soft, yet firm texture–almost like clay, but softer, making it very fun to play with. However, “The Butter squishy has the best texture!” Hudson said. The Butter squishy is not a Needoh, but it, too, is a viral squishy wanted by many but hard to find. DeHaven and Hudson collectively agreed that squishies are worth the hype.
Sophomore Calla Fauber said, “My favorite is the Fuzzball.” She also said she loves the soft ones; she thinks they feel the best compared to others.
Last, but not least, junior Molly Persinger said, “My favorite NeeDoh is the Cube, but I used to have a pink squishy dog that was my favorite till someone popped it.”
It seems that Spartans really like the Cube or the Fuzzball. Countless students are also seen in the halls with non-NeeDoh squishies, which are just as good at relieving stress and just as popular. Any squishy you can get your hands on nowadays is cool.
Yes, NeeDohs and squishies in general have become a viral sensation worldwide. Not only are they fun and calming, but also pretty and fun to look at and collect. With all their colors, designs, textures, and more, they truly are amazing.
