Leaving middle school to begin freshman year is a huge transition. Yet high school can be some of a student’s best years. Now that the first nine weeks has come to an end, it’s finally time to hear the freshmen’s take on high school.

“I love high school. It’s been so much fun!” freshman Abigail Taylor said. “The high school’s a lot less scary and all the teachers are very nice. I really like pep rallies and all the extra things we get to do.” Taylor plays soccer at GEHS. She loves getting to play with her friends and she’s formed many new bonds.

“High school’s been good but hard,” freshman Makya White said. “People made it seem more scary, like I would get attacked for turning in late work, but overall it met my expectations of what I thought high school would be.” White is a member of East’s Student Government Association and she has had lots of fun. For White, her favorite thing about high school and the biggest difference from middle school has been more freedom.

In middle school, students were required to keep their phones in their lockers. So freshmen Levi Smith is also enjoying the freedom of having his phone.

“I really like being able to have my phone in the halls and lunch,” Smith said.

“People have matured a little more, but not everybody,” Smith said. “There’s a lot of grown-looking people walking in the halls; it throws me off guard. I thought high school would be a lot bigger. Overall high school’s been okay, kinda boring and a little stressful.”
