There were seven Lady Spartan senior basketball players to honor on senior night, which was hosted in the Spartan gym on February 19 during halftime against Elkins High School.
It has become a tradition for Head Coach Jim Justice to celebrate the seniors by buying the girls a basket of Kentucky Fried Chicken! This year the chicken dinner winner seniors were: Kiki Bagut, Kayla Waller, Hannah Fuller, Kennedy Stewart, Sandy Banton, Regan Rink, and Mackenna McClure.
The girls and their team had a 27-0 undefeated season that culminated in a state championship. To top it off, Stewart accomplished her 1500 career points this year.
Bagut said the hardest thing to leave behind was the bond she established with assistant coaches Holly Jo and Jill Justice, and especially their kids. “The bonds I made with their kids will be something I miss forever.”
Bagut cited team dinners at coaches’ houses, where the girls performed karaoke, watched movies, and created TikToks, as her favorite part of her senior season because the gatherings brought the athletes closer as a team.
The Lady Spartans will miss their seniors so much, and were so happy to finish their season as good friends and state champs!
