Greenbrier East’s football team ended the year with a regular season record of 6-4, then lost to Chapmanville in regional competition on Nov. 14.

On Sept. 5 East beat archival Woodrow 28-14 in an away game.

“It was a great win,” head coach Ray Lee said. “Anytime you can beat your rival team it’s a great win.”

The Oak Hill home game on Sept. 26 turned a little heated when the other team decided to push.

“You don’t ever start a fight, and we didn’t start the fight,” Lee said, “but you don’t let anyone push you around.” Still, no one got hurt or in trouble during East’s 45-7 victory.

Even though the team got three new coaches this year, Lee knows the boys contributed to the season like he expected them to contribute. He loves being a football coach, and said that the players have grown so much closer as a team than they were three years ago. Lee also said that his favorite football player is “all of them,” and that he is “crying sad to let all my seniors go.”

Lee thinks the upcoming seniors are going to be great.

“When I say ‘make a difference,’ they’re going to make a difference.”
