On Saturday, November 1st, in Huntington, West Virginia, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartan cross country team took 1st place overall at the Class AAA Regionals. The girls took the meet by storm, with a whopping 5 runners in the top 15 places. Neena McClintic was 2nd place, Maddie Lilly was 5th, Caroline Perilli Hancock was 9th, Kate Adkins was 12th, and Jillian Styles was 13th. Leah Boggs placed 25th, and Emma Jo Palmer was 34th. Greenbrier East’s girls team was 1st place overall.

Several team members were enthusiastic about the season’s outcome.
Jillian Styles, sophomore, was interviewed first.
When asked how she thought the team had improved over the season, Styles said, “I think we have been much more dedicated.” Styles also reported personal improvement in the area of mental strength.
Next, junior Neena McClintic answered a few questions about her thoughts on the season.
“I think I have improved in workouts and races by trusting God’s plan,” McClintic said. “After the last two seasons ended in disappointment after getting sick, I decided to totally put my trust in God.”
McClintic went on to say that her favorite part of the season was traveling to the overnight meets. “The team always gets so much closer after these trips.”
Lastly, Maddie Lilly, senior, stated that her favorite part of regionals was that the team worked hard together to win the meet.
“I believe I have improved tremendously with my times and placements,” Lilly said. But her favorite part of the season was traveling to the overnight meets. “The team always gets so much closer after these trips.”
The Lady Spartan Cross Country Team has shown major determination and skill. They have and will continue to make their school proud!
