Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1, 2026, from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Most evidence points to a forced abduction, including blood on Nancy Guthrie’s porch, a disabled security system, and a left-behind phone, as reported by CNN.
On the day of Guthrie’s disappearance, media outlets reported that the doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m. and her pacemaker app was disconnected from her phone at 2:28 a.m. Over the weeks since, several ransom notes and messages have surfaced. Authorities have considered three as legitimate; these notes involve Bitcoin, cite specific details about Guthrie’s home, and name approaching ransom deadlines.
According to AP News, “Investigators in Arizona want residents near Nancy Guthrie’s home to share surveillance camera footage of suspicious cars or people they may have noticed in the month before she disappeared.”
Investigators were able to find a video of the man who disconnected the cameras, and the FBI describes the man seen on Guthrie’s porch that night as a male with an average build and about 5-foot, 9-inches tall (AP News). Currently, police investigating the disappearance are urgently trying to find the masked man caught on video, discover how the intruder accessed her home, what his motive was, and confirm which ransom notes are real.
On February 12, the FBI doubled the reward for any information that leads to Nancy Guthrie or the kidnapper to $100,000, as reported by AP News.
On February 24, according to NPR, Savannah Guthrie announced a $1 million family reward for her mother, Nancy’s, recovery, dead or alive, in an emotional video plea.
