On October 19th, the animal science class at East acquired three goats in order to learn about the responsibility of animal management. After a rocky start, the goats began to get comfortable with the new environment, lifestyle, and faces they saw every day.

In their first few days here, the goats managed to escape their pen and run around the Lewisburg/Fairlea area. After a couple of stressful days, members from the school and community were able to locate and capture the goats.

Upon learning about the disappearance of the new goats, multiple agricultural classes frantically searched for and chased after the escapees.

“I know goats are escape artists,” East senior and FFA member Tori Bennett said, “but I was still nervous when our goats escaped and didn’t come back.”

After wrangling the goats back to their pen, the work began to get them halter broke and comfortable around humans.

“It was very challenging to halter break the goats” East junior and FFA member Kinsey Brammer said. “They were very stubborn and they didn’t like us.”

As of November 8th, the goat saga came to an end as they were returned to their previous home due to unfortunate circumstances.
