Calico Cats
October 23, 2019
Calico cats aren’t normal cats. Typically, there are mostly female calicos, although male calicos do exist. Males make up just 0.3% of the population, and every male has a disorder which causes him to have two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome (XXY). The disorder causes male cats to be sterile, meaning they can’t reproduce.
Calicos are considered lucky. Ages ago, sailors would take calico cats along their voyage, because of their luck. Today, calicos are worth a lot of money. Female calicos cost the same as a regular tabby cat, but the price range for a male calico is $1000 – $2000. Despite the rumors and price, calico cats will not go extinct. Although males can’t breed, females can mate with other breeds and still get the calico coat.
So fear not! If you are looking to buy a calico, they’ll be in stock. Calicos are known to be friendly, warm-hearted, energetic and great with children. They’re the perfect pet for a family!
