The next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Spider-Man has begun filming in Atlanta, Georgia. On October 26th, Tom Holland teased the script on his Instagram story, posting a video of him reading his script on his iPad. Co-star Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in the films, also teased on his Instagram story, captioning the photo “Ned just wanted to stop in and say hi.” Holland has been hyping up fans with videos and pictures of him on set on his Instagram. One post shows him in his Spider-Man suit wearing a mask with the caption “Wear a mask. I’m wearing two…”

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker’s identity is revealed to the world. This open-ended scene leaves many possibilities as to what could happen next for the young hero. While we do not know much about the plot, we do know that most of the cast is returning. Jon Watts is coming back as director, along with returning stars Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, and Tony Revolori.

With every Marvel movie announcement come many fan theories. Child actor Lexi Rabe, who played Morgan Stark in Avengers: Endgame, posted a picture on Instagram saying she landed in Atlanta. While it hasn’t been confirmed that she is in the movie, many fans have speculated that we will get some Morgan Stark-Peter Parker scenes in the upcoming film. Also, in a now-deleted Instagram post, Jamie Foxx confirmed he will play the villain, Electro. If true, this will be Foxx’s second time playing this character, the first being in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield. This will also be the second character originally from a non-MCU movie to make an appearance. The first was Sam Raimi’s J Jonah Jameson who appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Alfred Molina is also speculated to reprise his role as Doctor Octopus in the film. Another theory involves Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange making an appearance since the multiverse is finally coming into light in the MCU. People have also speculated that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will suit up once more for the film.

Spider-Man 3 was supposed to begin filming in the summer, but was ultimately delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Cast and crew are following Covid-19 guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

The untitled Spider-Man film isn’t expected to release until December 2021. The next Marvel movie to hit theaters will be Black Widow on May 7th, 2021.
