Reasons to Live Spontaneously

“Nothing unexpected or wonderful is likely to happen if you have an itinerary in Paris filled with the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.” – Celebrity Chef Anthony Bourdain

Don’t you want to have stories to tell your children?

I’m sure you’ve been told on several occasions to live life spontaneously, but have you ever wondered why people tell you that? Why should you follow that advice? Here are some reasons.

You Only Live Once (YOLO)

You have your whole life to do whatever you want. So take advantage of it. Want to stargaze? Go for it. Want to swim with sharks? Awesome, more power to you! Why waste your life stuck in your house or watching Netflix? Make a bucket list and cross every single one of those things off your list.

It eases stress

Spontaneous (def): performed or occurring as a result of a sudden inner impulse or inclination and without premeditation or external stimulus.

This is just an obnoxious way of saying that you don’t think about the consequences of something and you just do it. Think about it. If you aren’t thinking, you aren’t stressing. You aren’t thinking of all that could go wrong and you aren’t imagining the worse. You’re just living.

It makes you more creative

The more things you do, the fewer boundaries you have. You learn to do something new and you can add that to your list of things to use in the future. Think of all the songwriters, painters, and poets who don’t limit themselves and create such beautiful things. They don’t critique, they don’t self-censor. They just do.

You’re happier

You’re living life to the fullest and you are having a great time–you should be, at least. You are having fun and possibly forgetting the world with all of its problems. You’re not worried about your relationship with your parents, or the person you miss, or any of that. You are just doing what makes you happy.

You have stories to tell your children–or just stories in general

Have stories to tell, not things to show. Don’t you like it when people tell stories about the adventures they went on and how much fun it sounds? Do it yourself! Tell your own stories!
