On October 31, students in Susie Haynes’s (Wyatt’s) Grow Your Own and Early Childhood Classroom Assistant Teacher programs will throw a Halloween party for the Pre-K here at Greenbrier East. It will be held in room E-123 during the school day. The education students love to plan and help with the activities every year. It provides them with the opportunity to work with the Pre-K group and is a fun experience all around.
The high-schoolers in East’s education program started planning for the celebration in late September. They all brainstormed snack ideas, crafts, and games to do with the kids. Each activity goes right along with the Halloween theme.
“I am most excited for the dance party,” junior Micah Lane said. “Not only because I am a dancer, but simply because the kids have so much energy and excitement. They still are in the stage where they don’t care about what others think.”
This year, the students’ snacks will consist of “Ghost Strawberries,” “Monster Juice,” and “Dirt Pudding.” Some of the games that the students will help with include “Pin the Boo” and “Ghost Toss.” There will also be a dance party! At the celebration, crafts including “Hand Spiders” and “Pumpkin Faces” will also be on the agenda.
“I like having all the kids in the classroom,” Susie Haynes, the parenting and education teacher at East, said. “The little energy is nice to have in class for a change. It reminds me of why I got into teaching.”
This tradition is sure to live on. It is as exciting for the students hosting as it is for the Pre-K. The Halloween party is sure to be a hit, and everyone will have cherished memories to look back on.
