Track and field: You see the runners, the jumpers, the winners. But that’s just the surface. Underneath, there’s a whole world of tough training, crazy dedication, and even some cool science. It’s not just about being fast; it’s about pushing yourself harder than you ever thought possible. It’s a wonderful sport where you can make lifelong friendships and life lessons, but it can also be very mentally and physically draining.
“Physically it can be straining, especially when I get injured,” junior Emma Palmer said, “but it also allows me to be active and get in shape. Yes, it does affect me mentally. When I have a bad race I get upset with myself.”
Track can also be a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
“My favorite part of track is the support,” sophomore, Kiana McClung said. “No matter how I finish, there will always be someone to tell me ‘good job.'”
If you’re considering doing the sport, whether just to stay in shape or as a main sport, you won’t regret it.
