For the past four post-Covid years, a door-decorating contest has been held here at Greenbrier East to celebrate the holiday season. This year, as always, the doors were judged on craftsmanship, creativity, completeness, originality, and imaginative communication of the Christmas theme.
Because 5th period is the longest class of the day, a teacher’s lunch block class always helps to decorate the door. If a teacher has planning during 5th period, they may select another class period to do the decorating.
The judging is based on each individual door; although hallways can collaborate to be more festive, only one door can win. The theme this Christmas was “A Worldwide Holiday Event,” so doors were to show how people around the world celebrate the holidays.
The contest took place on December 18, and the Special Education Department members were the ones to decide who won the contest.
- First place was Ms. McMahan’s door; her students won a pizza party
- Second place was Ms. Nutter’s door; her students received slushies
- Third place was Mr. Cline’s door; his students got cookies and milk
Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all who participated in making our school so festive!

This is something I look forward to every year. Seeing all the decorated doors while walking down the hallway adds to the “high school experience” I love that the winners and prizes of the competition are also included.

I love looking at all the decorated doors during the holidays. The creativity from the students and teachers is so cool to see. I think including the winners as well as their prizes was such a cool part of this article!

This activity that the teachers do for the different holidays isn’t only fun for the teachers but the students as well. Very excited to see what they come up with for this year!
