Over the years, fashion has been changed, molded, and repeated. It’s a form of self expression, a way to show people what colors you like, what textures you like, even what music you like. Last year, we saw many trends surface. Some notable ones are Adidas Sambas, Ugg boots and slippers, flared leggings, and hair bows. Based on those trends, here are some predictions for 2024.
Tops and Bottoms
Starting off with the most noticeable pieces, we have been seeing more and more baggy shorts on women. A clothing item that would usually be considered masculine, baggy shorts on women are a reclaiming, of sorts, because they are not worn for men’s attention. A great pairing for baggy shorts (or pants) is a crop top. This summer look out for tube tops paired with baggy pants. Keeping with the baggy theme, New York street style has been showing us more celebrities and influencers wearing baggy shirts, and baggy collared shirts.
Staple Pieces
One of the most important pieces in an outfit is shoes. Shoes can say a lot about you. In 2023, we saw the rise of Adidas sneakers, notably Campus 00s and Sambas. Since Sambas are still on the rise, they could become a staple piece in 2024, something we might see become common for teens and young adults. In high fashion, some influencers have been sporting Onitsuka Tigers, a shoe made popular in the 2003 movie “Kill Bill.” They seem to be making a comeback this year.
Colors and Textures
Another possible trend this year is experimental textures, colors, and patterns. The preppy style utilizing khaki pants and skirts is an interesting trend largely instigated by Bella Hadid, hinted at last summer. Given her prevalence as an influencer and fashion icon, it is sure to make another run this summer. Another emerging trend is leopard print, a “banished” pattern that seems to be peeking around the corner this year.
In conclusion, the emerging trends of late 2023 are likely to make their way into 2024 as iconic go-to’s.
