The Wonders of Halloween

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Keira Smith, Staff Writer

Every year during the month of October there are fun activities to enjoy. Families stay active and happy carving pumpkins and roasting the seeds, creating spooky, themed foods, telling ghost stories, and visiting haunted houses. I always look forward to Halloween (especially since next year I’m going to do something big with my family for the younger children trick-or-treating in our neighborhood)!

Halloween is often the most lively and favorite holiday of the year. Covid interfered with the joy of Halloween in 2020, but once pandemic restrictions eased kids were back to trick-or-treating around the block for hours. Recently, people went all out decorating their houses, shopping for (or making) costumes, and giving out candy.

The top costumes in Google’s Frightgeist were determined by search data from around the United States. Here are the top 10 most common searches:

  1. Witch
  2. Spider-Man
  3. Dinosaur
  4. Stranger Things
  5. Fairy
  6. Pirate
  7. Rabbit
  8. Cheerleader
  9. Cowboy
  10. Harley Quinn

The top three searches in West Virginia, by the way, were a witch, Stranger Things, and Hocus Pocus.
