Celebration at a game.

At every boys’ soccer game this season, the bleachers were lined with Spartan friends and families cheering and chanting. Sports, especially soccer, bring people together, and this past season was extremely exciting for Greenbrier East soccer fans with the immense success of the boys’ team. Fans screamed, cheered, and painted stripes of green and gold across their faces. They rattled cowbells and held up signs with pictures and sweet messages for their favorite players. No matter the weather–sunny and 76 or windy and 50–fans packed the stands.

The energy at East soccer games was unmatched, the student section performing chants, yelling at the refs, and screaming for their players. With excitement building towards the end of a season with only two losses, the boys prepared to go into sectionals against Oak Hill. They cleared that obstacle, then beat Woodrow Wilson and tied George Washington on their way to a state semifinal against Wheeling Park. Many supporters missed school to drive to that match, held in Beckley, and watched the Spartans prevail 2-1. Now the state championship was within their grasp!
