Spider-Man: No Way Home was the most anticipated and action-packed movie of 2021. Released on December 17, the film reached $121 million in box office sales on opening night. It was ranked the third-biggest worldwide opening weekend at a whopping $587 million. Its Rotten Tomatoes scores currently sit at 98% (audience) and 93% (Tomatometer). Even the trailer released in August racked up more than 355 million views in just 24 hours. Behind it’s fellow Marvel films Avengers: Infinity War ($640 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($1.2 billion), No Way Home is Sony Pictures’ most successful film.

Fans like myself were not disappointed. This film combines old cinema with new, bringing back past villains from the other Spider-Man films such as Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Dr. Otto Octavius, and Jamie Foxx reprising the role of Electro. These Spider-Man alumni have shared in interviews how surprised and excited they were when pitched to return. And fans all over the world can’t stop talking about the movie’s biggest surprise: the much-anticipated return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield playing their versions of Spider-Man. All three Spider-Men sharing the big screen made audiences go berserk. Online videos of audience reactions are insane. When I watched the film for the first time, everyone in the theater, including me, went completely crazy. The experience was something I will remember forever. On Entertainment Tonight, Andrew Garfield said that on opening night he and Tobey Maguire sneaked into a theater without anyone knowing. I would love to know how they felt seeing fans get so excited about their return.

No Way Home’s receipts are still rising, and soon we will see if the film will be nominated for an Oscar, along with other awards. This film is full of action and comedy, and is definitely an emotional roller coaster. It’s an experience for the whole family: Parents can watch this film and enjoy the same heroes and villains they grew up with at the same time their children are hero-worshiping Tom Holland and crew. This movie is what makes cinema, cinema. Director Jon Watts and producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige did a fantastic job capturing every moment in this film and turning it into a masterpiece. Spider-Man: No Way Home was the best film of 2021 and I would highly recommend watching or re-watching it in theaters.
