Do You Sleep With or Without Socks On?
May 25, 2021
Did you know wearing socks to bed can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer? Most people debate wearing socks or no socks to bed. I asked 11 people if they wear socks or no socks to bed. Three said they do, while the other eight said they do not. “If you wear socks to bed you’re a psychopath,” was one response. Another was, “If people wear socks to bed, they are crazy.”
Junior Maddie Carver said, “I don’t go out of my way to put [socks] on at night, but if I have them on then I like them.” She elaborated: “But I don’t like them to be too tight…usually they are loose ones. Not like footies. Like long socks or ankle socks. I love socks.”
“I do not sleep with socks regularly,” junior Ashlee Thompson said. “The only time I do is if I wore fuzzy socks all day long because it was cold or something and I just didn’t take them off. Other than that, no, but I don’t have a hatred toward wearing them to bed. Some people, if you said, ‘I sleep with socks on’ they will be angry with you. I personally just don’t care, but socks are pretty cool.”
According to Sleep Foundation, some benefits of wearing socks to bed are falling asleep faster, staying asleep longer, and aiding a process called distal vasodilation, which refers to an increase of blood to your hands and feet that reduces your core body temperature quicker. On the other hand (or foot), Bright Side claims that if you can’t tolerate the idea of sleeping with your socks on, and just the thought of your feet covered at night makes you feel uncomfortable, it’s probably because you have either a faster metabolism than others, good blood circulation, or thicker skin.
It seems to me that there are more benefits to sleeping with socks on than without, but everyone has their own preference. Now that you have read this article, have you changed your mind about wearing socks or no socks to bed? Post a comment about whether you sleep with or without socks!
